At Devonshire Primary Academy, we have chosen French as our Modern Foreign Language as most of the high schools we feed into teach French in KS3. We use ‘Language Angels’ scheme of learning to ensure we offer a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that will inspire and excite our children.
We want all of our children to develop a genuine interest in, and a positive curiosity about, foreign languages and we want them to be excited about learning another language. We believe that learning languages supports the development of cultural capital, as well as intercultural understanding and we want our children to develop their knowledge of famous French-speaking people, French celebrations and French traditions.
Throughout their primary education we want all our children to experience success in French and to feel confident expressing their ideas and thoughts in another language and in understanding and responding to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. We also want to provide opportunities for them to learn new ways of thinking and to read literature in the target language. We believe that language teaching should provide the foundation for learning the target language in greater depth and for learning further languages. We want our children to be excited about continuing to learn languages at KS3 and we want to encourage them to become life-long language learners.
