At Devonshire Primary Academy, it is our vision that all pupils develop a genuine interest in and positive curiosity about foreign languages, finding them enjoyable and stimulating.

We have chosen to use ‘Language Angels’ to ensure we offer a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that will inspire and excite our pupils using a wide variety of topics and themes.

We believe that learning languages also supports the development of cultural capital as well as intercultural understanding.

We want all our children to experience success through learning French for four years and feeling confident in being able to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and in understanding and responding to its speakers, both in speech and in writing.  We also want to provide opportunities for them to learn new ways of thinking and to read literature in the target language.

We believe that language teaching should provide the foundation for learning the target language in greater depth and for learning further languages.  We want our children to be excited about continuing to learn languages at KS3 and to encourage them to become life-long language learners.
